The Holy Family consists of Jesus: The Son of God, his mother the Blessed Virgin Mary, and his foster-father Saint Joseph.
 
In the Gospels very little is told about the holy family. In the Gospels we read about the appearance of the Angel to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to Saint Joseph. We also read about the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, the visit of the wise men, their flight into Egypt. One of the commandments as mentioned in the Old Testament (Exodus 20:12) is to Honour your Father and Mother. Additionally, it is the only commandment with a blessing added to it. The words are: “so that you will live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
 
St. Paul explains this commandment in his letter to the Ephesians: 1-6
