We are called to have the heart of Jesus

The heart of Jesus was moved with pity as he spoke these words while gazing on a crowd that was “troubled and abandoned.”

We are called to have the heart of Jesus

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

The heart of Jesus was moved with pity as he spoke these words while gazing on a crowd that was “troubled and abandoned” (verse 36). The gift that is Jesus' heart lives within each of us. We are called to do what we can to see life through his heart. Life, as seen through the heart of Jesus, reveals its true nature. Life can then be heard in the cry of the lonely and abandoned, in the desperate wandering of refugees in search of shelter, food, clothing, a home. It can be overwhelming to look deeply into life with a heart moved by God's grace. But our hopes as Christians is that God is with us we labor to find ways to respond to those in our midst who are in need. Our means may be limited, but our harvest master can use them bring forth abundant good.-- Fr James Stephen Behrens, O.C.S.O
