Lord of Goa

From the Castle of Xavier to the Casket of Goa
The man who was ready to go anywhere to straighten the crooked
And to purify the minds poisoned by the poisonous theories
Left no stone unturned to raise the mirror of the Cross
For all to see and find their worth.

Lord of Goa

By Joe Palathunkal

Where the blue sea whispers songs to the coconut palms
Through the endless waves and tides
There a Basque anchored to turn the tides for the one
Who commanded the sea and the tides for his frightened fishermen
And to bring up the tides of love to reach every
Ship lost in the sea of life to the shore of faith and truth.

From the Castle of Xavier to the Casket of Goa
The man who was ready to go anywhere to straighten the crooked
And to purify the minds poisoned by the poisonous theories
Left no stone unturned to raise the mirror of the Cross
For all to see and find their worth
And on the raging seas and the coastal sands

The soldier who fought under the standard of the Cross
Left his imprints and footprints to remind us that
Ours is a voyage on the rising waves without getting scared
To take the Lord of the seas and waves beyond borders and boundaries
To break all the borders and barriers
And in Kottar, Kochi, Goa, the Apostle of Indies rang
A little bell to call the children of God to hear the good news
That the waves of Galilee sang for the liberation of all!

Francis Xavier took patients, prisoners and the poor
To him who promised the healing, liberation and the fill
And he turned into a volcano of love of God like
Magdalene, Paul and Constantine to erupt on the Indies
To change the cultures and values befitting the Nazarene
And he rewarded him an immortal body to remind everybody
That he is his beloved soldier who conquered the hearts of people
While the rulers and kings conquered and subjugated the body of people

And made him the Lord of Goa, Goencho Saib
And from Bom Jesus to Savariar Kovil his immortal life rules
A civilization challenging it to change its face and gaze
To become like the image and eyes of one who was born
To love all and bring a new dawn and from the silver casket of Goa
The Lord of Goa like a pole star guides every voyage
Lost in a turbulent sea of life scared of the raging waves

And the dangerous sharks in the deep and he assures
Everyone with a raised Cross that nothing can cross the Cross
To take away the love and liberation promised from the Cross
And the Lord of Goa is there to take every soulful prayer to Cross!

(December 3rd: Feast of Saint Francis Xavier known as Goencho Saib or Lord of Goa. The day is celebrated as a state festival and it is a public holiday in Goa.)
