Father Michal Los

With stole and alb adorned
The deacon got ready for the apostolic
Hands to touch his head
And to make him the priest of the Lord
To offer himself as a burnt offering to him
Who wants nothing but mercy.

Father Michal Los

By Joe Palathunkal
Every altar on every church
Extended hands to an unusual altar
Like bright beams of the morning sun
Shining forth the Sun of suns
Whose Cross turned into an altar
On a hospital bed in Poland
To prepare for an ordination
That will stand out like a bright star
To welcome the eternal priest
Who offered himself on the altar of love.

With stole and alb adorned
The deacon got ready for the apostolic
Hands to touch his head
And to make him the priest of the Lord
To offer himself as a burnt offering to him
Who wants nothing but mercy.

Michal Los is in Melchizedek’s line
To offer a Mass that preaches all the gospels
And the host he raised from the hospital bed
With a pipe connected to his nose

And everything near him loudly spoke
About the Risen Lord he would meet imminently
Sang in chorus with all the hosts raised
All over the world and Father Michal Los
Among all the priests in Mass vestments
Stands taller than all the rest of the world;

And on the pages of church history
His name is written in bold calligraphy
As the Catholic priest of the century
When he closed his eyes on the hospital bed
That turned into the most eloquent altar of Poland
Where the words rang out may the “Holy Spirit
Graciously sanctify these offerings,

That they may become the Body and Blood
Of our Lord Jesus Christ for the celebration
Of this great mystery, which he himself left us
As an eternal covenant.”

And Father Michal Los turned into a signature
On the covenant when he closed his eyes
Like a Eucharistic prayer and for him
The Eucharist he offered indeed became
A bouquet of rose flowers formed into Thanks!

(Michal Los of the Congregation of the Orionine Fathers was found with terminal cancer on diagnosis. With special permission from Pope Francis, he was ordained a deacon and priest in the same Mass at a  Military Hospital in Warsaw  by Bishop Marek Solarczyk  on 24 May 2019 and Father Michal Los offered his First Mass from the hospital bed on 25 May. President Andrzej Duda of Poland visited him and got his blessing on his 31st birthday June 7 and he died on 17 June.)
