Corona Virus Pandemic and God’s Prophecy
Today, the unprecedented spread of Covid-19 all over the world claiming a heavy toll of human lives every day has deprived the peace of the world.

“In the city, everything is in chaos, and people lock themselves in their houses for safety.” Isaiah 24.10
According to the First Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, God never tolerated disobedience and wickedness on the part of the mankind he created. The reason for sending out the first man Adam and the first woman Eve out of Eden Garden was due to their disobedience to listen to God and to stay away from eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. They committed a grave sin by eating the forbidden fruit. Thus, sin came to the world through one man and his sin brought death with it.
When the wickedness of mankind began to spread all over the world, God decided to wipe out all the people he created including the animals and birds. So, in order to destroy the whole universe, God opened the floodgates of the sky and let the rain pound on the earth for forty days and nights bringing the water level of the flood up to seven metres above the tops of the tallest mountains to make sure that every living being that on the earth died. Such was God’s blazing anger against disobedience and the sins. So, the first flood by which the whole universe was destroyed was not a natural calamity. This was due to the result of God’s anger against disobedience, sins, and wickedness of the people.
Again, we can see that when God saw man’s wickedness mounting, He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. This happened because the people of these two cities rejected God and lived in sins of inhumanity. These happenings recorded in the Old Testament prove that God detests sins and wickedness.
The Book of the Prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament begins with reprimand to his people. The Lord said, “Earth and Sky, listen to what I am saying! The children I brought up have rebelled against me. Cattle know who owns them, and donkeys know where their master feeds them. But that is more than my people Israel know. They do not understand at all.”
Isaiah also refers to God’s punishment of the Earth: “The Lord is going to devastate the earth and leave it desolate.” Corona virus has made Isaiah’s prophecy come true: “In the city everything is in chaos, and people lock themselves in their houses for safety. People shout in the streets because there is no more wine. Happiness is gone forever; it has been banished from the land.”
Today, the unprecedented spread of Covid-19 all over the world claiming a heavy toll of human lives everyday has deprived the peace of the world. Cities of the countries in the world are becoming desolate and people scared of this deadly virus have locked themselves in their houses for safety viz. in fear of getting infected through physical contact and of its resultant horrible death. People are scattered as prophesied and running away from the affected regions to less affected ones. We can place our trust only in God for His healing intervention remembering the words of WHO that “This virus may never go away “. We can recite psalm 91 with trust and repentance imploring God not to open the ‘Bowls of His Anger’ and pour out more on the Earth (Rev. 16. 1-21).
