Be a super kid to face your examinations!
When you are preparing for the examinations and when you think you are at the end of the road, just say with Jim: “God will surely find a way.” This is what children preparing for the examinations need to repeat in their minds and definitely it will boost your energy to study and self-confidence.

This is February and by the end of the month the board examinations will begin, at least the ICSE Board. Then on it is examinations all the way till the end of May, either in schools or in colleges. And the students are in panic, the police and fire force are on extra alert on the Sabarmati River to save students who would find the river the best place to end their examination blues!
This is an irrational way of looking at the examinations because failure in examination is not the end of life because God has given you life to live it in its fullness – fully human and fully alive is the psychological maxim; success or failure in an examination should not determine it. But you can do well in the examination provided you think you can. If you think, you can become a super kid and defeat the examination anxieties.
Recently I came across a beautiful novel The Super Kid by P. V. George brought out by Become Shakespeare publishers. George himself a long time teacher of English literature might have written the fiction to instill confidence in teenagers and students keeping his hero Jim as a school dropout longing to go to school.
The novel with 35 chapters has even a chapter titled “Jim joins a new school” and it begins with a helpless kid’s earnest desire for learning and that is why the anxious boy asks: “Will I be able to study again? Who will give me admission? God will surely find a way.”
And God did find a way and Jim got into a new school with the help of some good people who respected his sincere desire. When you are preparing for the examinations and when you think you are at the end of the road, just say with Jim: “God will surely find a way.” This is what children preparing for the examinations need to repeat in their minds and definitely it will boost your energy to study and self-confidence.
Self confidence is the key to your success in your study and examinations and this confidence will invigorate your memory power and hope which are necessary for study and the test of knowledge. That is why India’s spiritual visionary Swami Vivekanand gave this clarion call to the youth of India: “What makes you weep, my friend? In you is all power. Summon up your all-powerful nature, mighty one and this whole universe will lie at your feet.”
That is what the super hero of the Super Kid does in all situations though in the novel he gets these powers when he helps an ugly looking woman tied to a tree and moved by compassion he releases her and she turns into a beautiful looking angel to help Jim in all situations. And throughout the novel you will see Jim helping his fellow students and others who are caught in very perilous situations.
Preparing for examination is a matter of helping each other and if you are ready to help a fellow student who is weak in study that help in itself will enhance your knowledge and power.
You can do much more than what you think you can. This must be the quintessential motto that must guide you when you are preparing for your examinations but very often students caught up in examination anxiety think they cannot even do what they think they can. But the truth is just the opposite – you can do much more than what you think you can.
Just think of boy Jesus facing the Jewish scholars in the temple (Luke 2: 41 – 52) “listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers”. Listening and asking questions is the key to understanding and this all the students must follow.
Ultimately, it is your conviction that ‘I can do it’ will lead to your success in the study and examination along with hard work, will-power, long preparation and concentration. Be positive in your approach to the examination and its preparations. Always remember the hero of the Super Kid who became a super kid by helping others. Just help a fellow student and you will see how clarity comes to your own understanding of the subject.
Whenever you feel you are down and confused during your examination preparations just say with Saint Paul this much thinking of Jesus in your mind (Philippians 4: 13): “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
