A Pope comes from Argentina

By Joe Palathunkal
Walking the way
From Jerusalem to Jericho
A Latino comes to the Land of Latin
From the land of Jose de San Martin
To define liberation
Holding
The standard
Of the wounded soldier of Pamplona
But Prefers to walk
With the wanderer of Assisi
To take away
The thorns from the wounded souls
And to let the birds fly
On the wings of freedom
Away from the cages
And the fowler’s snares.

Now
On the footprints of Peter
He will mingle his own
To walk a way
Filled with stones and thorns
While the white smoke
That brought him
To the chair of the fisherman
May face black smoke
From a polluted world
Where
When the Pontiff
Turns into a prophet
The strong feet of Argentina
Will lift the globe
Like Diego Maradona
And Francis will become
Not a mere name
But a project and a lamp
On the summit of Aconcagua
To enlighten the world
Being an encyclical himself.

(Special feature for the 5th anniversary of Pope Francis' pontificate.
