Father in Heaven, keep me in your mind and heart

The Letter to the Hebrews quotes the words of Psalm 8: “what is man that you should be mindful of him, or the son that you should care for him?”

Animated and encouraged by the words of Paul in the Alleluia verse, “Receive this message not as the words of man, but as truly the word of God”, we accept God’s word as a gift that we should appreciate, enjoy and respond to with gratitude.

We appreciate the gift of revelation in Scripture by personalizing it, applying it to oneself. On a personal level we can fruitfully reflect: what am I that God should remember me and care for me? The Psalmist answers: we are a little less than the angels, but far above other creatures. St John’s Gospel gives us an even more profound answer to that question: God loved us in this so special way that he gave his Son to us (Jn 3:16). What the Scripture says about all humanity, we personalize in prayer, for this great gift of love is the perfect demonstration of how deeply God keeps each of us in heart and mind and lovingly cares for us.

Father in Heaven, keep me in your mind and heart every day of my life and take care of me that I may never go astray.
