Pope Francis will be attending World Youth Day in Panama during January 22-27, 2019.
The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke, confirmed Pope's visit via a press conference on Monday.
Next year's World Youth Day will be the third that sees Pope's participation, the earlier ones being in Brazil and Poland, during the years 2013 and 2016 respectively.
Pope had earlier registered online for the event on February 11, 2018, at the Sunday Angelus.
Juan Carlos Varela, Panama’s president, expressed his excitement in a tweet, that he “shares the joy and excitement of the Panamanian people” on the news of Pope's official attendance.
