Archbishop Alfred Xuereb, Apostolic Nuncio to Korea and Mongolia, lauded the Singapore summit as a “historic” one.
The summit marked “an important page at the beginning of a long and arduous road” towards peace, he said.
The Catholic Church in Korea has suggested the observance of novena prayers, starting from 17th to 25th June, for “peace, reconciliation and unity” to prevail on the Korean peninsula.
“We will be stopping the war games which will save us a tremendous amount of money, unless and until we see the future negotiation is not going along like it should. But we’ll be saving a tremendous amount of money, plus I think it’s very provocative,” Trump was quoted to have said, post the summit.
“We are hopeful because this beginning was very positive, very good,” said the Apostolic Nuncio, adding that the “Holy See wishes to offer its support to any initiative in favour of dialogue and reconciliation and also take advantage of this to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to North Korea”.
