New bishop appointments for India

On the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Pope Francis appointed two bishops for India: Fr. Dennis Panipitchai(60) SDB, as Auxiliary Bishop of Miao and Fr. Fulgence Aloysius Tigga(52), of the diocese of Bettiah, as the bishop of Raiganj.

Fr. Dennis was born on July 27, 1958 in Colachel(Kottar diocese), Tamil Nadu. He did his schooling at St. Mary’s Parish School in Colachel, after which he entered the pre-novitiate of the Salesians in Shillong.

His philosophy formation was at Divyadaan Salesian Institute of Philosophy, Nashik, and later he studied theology at Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong. He was ordained a priest on December 27, 1991.

He currently serves as the parish priest of Mary Immaculate Church, Chingmeirong, of the Archdiocese of Imphal. He has also served as the Provincial Counsellor from 2012.

Fr. Fulgence Tigga, who belongs to the diocese of Gumla was born in Katkathi village on March 3, 1965.

He completed his seminary studies at the Minor Seminary of Muzaffarpur, philosophy formation at Vishwa Jyoti Gurukul, Varanasi, and theology studies at Bhopal Regional Seminary.

He was ordained priest on May 3, 1997 for Muzzafarpur diocese. He currently serves as the Vicar General of Bettiah diocese.

Apart from being the Vicar General, he also serves as the Dean of West Champaran, Member of the Priests Council, Diocesan Consultor, In-charge of Liturgy and Vocation Commission and Vocation promoter.
