Kerala priest involved in agri-loan scam, suspended from priestly ministry

Fr. Thomas Peelianickal, who had been involved in an agri-loan scam in Kuttanad, has been suspended from priestly ministry, with effect from July 13.

The announcement which was published in the latest edition of 'Vedaprachara Madhyasthan', the official bulletin of the Archeparchy of Changanassery.

Fr. Thomas Peelianickal, the former executive director of the Kuttanad Vikasana Samithi(KVS), was granted conditional bail on the loan scam case, for which he had been apprehended on June 19.

He had allegedly forged the signatures of paddy farmers and formed different self-help groups to avail loan from banks.

“As per the evidence we collected, Peelianickal is now accused in only six cases. The investigation is progressing and Peelianickal may become accused in more cases in coming days,” said the investigation team.
