Fr. Beatus Christian appointed the bishop of Sumbawanga

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Sumbawanga, Tanzania, presented by H.E. Msgr. Damian Kyaruzi.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of the same see the Rev. Fr. Beatus Christian Urassa, ALPC/OSS, former provincial superior of his Institute in Tanzania.

The Rev. Fr. Beatus Christian Urassa, ALPC/OSS, was born on 2 August 1965 in Keni Mashati Rombo, diocese of Moshi. He studied Philosophy in the major seminary of the Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus in Nairobi, Kenya, and theology in the interdiocesan major seminary of St Charles Lwanga in Segrea, Dar Es Salaam.

He received his doctorate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Teresianum Institute in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 12 July 1997 for the Apostolic Institute Life Community of Priests/Opus Sancti Spiritus (ALCP/OSS).

Since priestly ordination he has held the following positions: secretary of the General Council of the religious congregation ALCP/OSS in Moshi, Tanzania (1997-1998); deputy parish priest of Mwananyamala, Dar Es Salaam (1998-1999); formator in the ALCP/OSS training house in Morogoro (1999-2000); studies in Rome at the Pontifical Teresianum Institute (2000-2003); and provincial superior of the ALCP/OSS (2003-2015).
