Cardinal Alencherry alleged of cover-up; Church lands in yet another controversy

Bishop of Jalandhar, Franco Mulackal has been facing charges of sex abuse, after a Catholic nun exposed him to have sexually abused her, four years before.

Bishop Franco Mulackal has denied all allegations against him, terming the accusations as a “revenge act” of the nun, who according to the bishop, was removed from the post of 'Superior', as part of disciplinary action.

“When I finally took action against the nun, her brother threatened to kill me. He sent me a letter saying that he would cut me into pieces if I dared to land in Kerala," says the bishop.

Cardinal Alencherry who had already been neck-deep in trouble over the land scam, has been dragged into the case, making the whole affair all the more hapless.

Fr. Peter Kavumkal, Vicar-General Jalandhar diocese said that congregation to which the nun belonged, was planning to dismiss her on July 2nd and that the current issue is “all planned and timed to blackmail the bishop from taking punitive action against her”.
