Saint Michael is an Archangel. The name Michael means “Who is like God”. He is considered a champion of justice, a healer of the sick, and the guardian of the Church. In art Saint Michael is depicted with a sword, a banner, or scales, and is often shown vanquishing Satan in the form of a dragon.
In the book of Revelation, (Chapter 12) St. Michael and his angels, fight a battle with the dragon, and defeat the dragon. St. Michael’s feast Day is September 29th. The same day is the Feast of St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael, All Archangels.
Below is a prayer that can be recited before the statue:
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
